The Origins of The Abarca
In Menorca, the abarca was introduced in the 13th century. The model we know today dates back to the second half of the 20th century, when it begins to become popular and its style is redesigned.
With the passage of time it becomes popular as footwear for the summer and begins to be known worldwide.
Shoemakers since 1947
RIA Menorca has its origin in a small workshop that opened in 1947. With experience as a shoemaker since childhood, Bartolomé Truyol was one of the founders of a business always linked to the footwear sector.
After a few years, the company moves to a larger workshop to be able to attend to the increase in orders, where the first attempts to export products outside Spain are made.
The Second Generation
In 1998, Carlos Truyol assumed the management of RIA Menorca and was committed to manufacturing exclusively Menorcan covers. All the knowledge as an artisan shoemaker of the father is combined with the constant work in design and innovation that the son introduces to create collections that maintain the essence of this traditional footwear, but that adapt to new fashion trends.
